Workshops organized by the Venice Biennale and Ircam
For 2011, the Venice Biennale has invited Ircam for a series of workshops for young Italian composers.
There will be three different kinds of workshops:
1. Workshop: mixed music
There will be a collective work on drafts of mixed pieces carried out by the trainees under the supervision of Ircam specialists. It is a opportunity to deal concretely with different topics of the electronic production together with musicians (see: call for candidatures).

2. Workshop: software
Presentation of the latest Ircam software linked with musical subjects: real-time tools, Max4Live presentation, computer-assisted composition (introduction to OpenMusic), score following (Antescofo), spatialization, sound synthesis, use of descriptors…

3. Conference: Ircam composers
Various Italian composers that studied at Ircam will present their productions in interaction with musicians. Different subjects concerning electronic music production will be developed.
Participants: Francesca Verunelli, Andrea Agostini, Daniele Ghisi, Eric Maestri
>> Warning! For these workshops good knowledge of the MaxMSP software is required
(level as high as tutorials Max 1- 30 and all MSP tutorials, regular praxis with the software).
>> Courses will be in English and Italian.
>> Trainees are requested to bring along their laptop and headphones when possible

CALL FOR CANDIDATURES
Composers are requested to send some piece drafts for solo and electronic instruments to : musicworkshops@labiennale.org.
Deadline: Wednesday June 15th, 2011.
To deliver:
1. One piece with electronics:
- PDF score
- Max 5 patch
2. One piece (with or without electronics):
- PDF score
- mp3 recording when possible
Ircam and the Venice Biennale will release the selection of the 12 participants on 25th June.
Candidates will have to send the Ircam teachers on August 17th, 2011 the latest:
The draft of a new piece (possible instruments: accordion, saxophone (all kinds), violin). Maximal length: 3’ with patch. The available sound system will be in quadraphonic sound.
